How tall should a floor lamp be?
Most floor lamps stand around 150 to 175cm. Beside a sofa or chair, the shade bottom is best near eye level when you are seated, so the bulb stays hidden and the light falls where you need it.
Where should I place a floor lamp?
Beside a sofa or armchair for reading, in a dark corner to lift the whole room, or behind a chair as an arching reading light. Keep the base clear of walkways and near a socket.
Do floor lamps come with a bulb?
Yes. Most ship with a warm-white LED bulb included (and a shade where the design has one), so they are ready to plug in and use.
Are floor lamps dimmable?
Many are, through a dimmable bulb and inline dimmer, or built-in dimming on some models. Dimming is noted on each product page, and where a bulb is included it is a dimmable warm-white LED.
What is the best floor lamp for reading?
Choose a tall or arc lamp with a directional or adjustable head so light falls onto the page, ideally dimmable. Position it just behind and to the side of your shoulder.
What brightness do I need?
For ambient corner light a warm 400 to 800 lumen LED is plenty; for a dedicated reading lamp go a little brighter and add a dimmer so you can soften it in the evening.
Are floor lamps stable around kids and pets?
Our floor lamps have weighted, stable bases, but in busy homes choose a wider base and route the cord against the wall to avoid trips.
